Keeping Your Business Vehicles Secure

Posted By Trevor Fox

If you run a business that relies on the use of multiple vehicles then you’ll want to take every step you can in order to make them secure.

When you have multiple vehicles then it’s very easy to attract unwanted attention, particularly if the vehicles are expensive or are transporting valuable goods.

Below are some of the best ways to keep your business vehicles secure.

Secure your premises

Securing the premises where your vehicles are kept is a must when you want to make your business more secure. You should install CCTV and security alarms on your premises as well as installing security lights. Security lights are a very good deterrent, especially during the winter months when it gets darker much earlier. You can get motion sensitive security lights that are only triggered when they sense movement.

Get a company fleet insurance policy

When you have multiple vehicles that you need to insure then by far the best way of doing it is by getting a fleet insurance policy. Commercial fleet insurance will enable you to secure all your company vehicles on one policy. This is of course much easier than insuring all the vehicles on separate policies. Not only that but fleet insurance usually works out significantly cheaper too. Some of the factors that affect the cost of a company fleet insurance policy include the value of the vehicles being insured, the number of vehicles, how they’re used and the named drivers.

Be selective with your drivers

It’s easy to focus on the risk of theft and vandalism when it comes to your company vehicles but your own drivers actually pose the most risk. This is why it’s incredibly important to be selective with who you hire. You want to hire experienced drivers who are ideally over the age of 25. This is because drivers that meet this criteria are not only less likely to be involved in an accident but they’ll also be much easier and cheaper to insure on your company fleet insurance policy.

Install security devices

You should also make the vehicles themselves as secure as possible. Most modern vehicles will already have an alarm and immobiliser fitted but you should also invest in GPS tracking devices so if one of your vehicles was stolen, the police could easily track it down and recover it on your behalf.
